About — About Alec Rodriguez, Architectural Designer
Architecture grounded in purpose, resolution, and experience.
I’m Alec Rodriguez, an architectural designer based in Miami. I’m interested in architecture that responds deliberately to its purpose, context, materials, and the people who experience it.
Working in practice has made me more interested in the decisions behind a building than the final image alone. Architecture is the result of solving thousands of interconnected problems—code, structure, circulation, material, construction, function, and atmosphere—without losing the original intent of the space.
What I Believe

Resolution
Architecture is problem solving.
Every building is the result of thousands of decisions involving code, structure, circulation, materials, detailing, construction, cost, use, and design intent. What interests me is not only whether a solution works, but how thoughtfully the problem was resolved. A technically correct answer can still feel careless. I’m interested in solutions that satisfy real constraints without unnecessarily compromising the purpose of the architecture.

Purpose
Space should have a reason for being the way it is.
Convention has value, and familiar solutions often exist because they work. But I do not think something should be designed a certain way simply because that is how it has always been done. I’m interested in understanding what a space needs to accomplish and finding the solution that best supports that purpose—whether the answer is familiar or something different.

Atmosphere
Architecture shapes how a space feels.
Materials, light, proportion, enclosure, negative space, occupied space, and openness work together to create the emotional experience of a building. For me, architecture is not only about making something visually impressive. It is about deliberately combining those elements so the space feels the way it is intended to feel while still functioning the way it needs to function.
The whole is built from decisions.
The architecture I admire most is where individual solutions work together so well that the finished building feels simple, intentional, and complete.
