Project Overview

Meliá Brickell is an eight-story hospitality project in Miami consisting of approximately 81,395 square feet and 110 lodging units, including studios, junior suites and one-bedroom accommodations. The project combines guest-room floors with ground-level hospitality and service functions and a rooftop amenity level featuring a pool, spa and terrace overlooking Miami. My involvement has centered on Construction Administration and interdisciplinary technical coordination during active construction, working through architectural, structural, MEP, waterproofing, life-safety and field-condition issues as the project progresses from construction documents into built work.

My Role

I have supported the day-to-day Construction Administration of Meliá Brickell through a project record containing more than 100 RFIs and 100 submittals. My responsibilities extend beyond document tracking to investigating field conditions, comparing shop drawings against the contract documents, identifying interdisciplinary conflicts, developing architectural responses and drawing revisions, coordinating consultant reviews, and preparing final contractor response packages for PM/AOR review.

I regularly coordinate between Architecture, Structural, MEP, waterproofing/envelope consultants, interior design, the contractor and ownership to determine responsibility, resolve technical conflicts and document buildable solutions.

Selected Technical Work

  1. 01

    Field Condition + Architectural Resolution

    Resolved a Level 8 structural-column conflict affecting the unit glazing and sliding-door system through document investigation, revised plan and elevation work, an enlarged detail, and coordinated CMU infill and brake-metal cladding.

  2. 02

    Façade + Constructability

    Reviewed exterior stucco panelization against ASTM C1063 and revised elevations and score-line locations to maintain compliant panel areas while preserving the façade composition.

  3. 03

    Fire + Acoustical Assembly Research

    Investigated a corridor-wall modification involving UL U419 and U493 assemblies, 1-hour separation and STC performance, clarifying the limits of an untested hybrid assembly.

  4. 04

    Shop Drawing + Delegated Design Review

    Reviewed doors and hardware, equipment supports, roof curbs, railings, canopies, façade screens and firestopping against the architectural documents while routing engineering criteria to the appropriate consultants.

    Building Envelope + Waterproofing

    Supported waterproofing coordination at elevator pits, roofs, amenity areas and penetrations, including substitutions, manufacturer systems, consultant comments, compatibility and warranty implications.

    MEP + Architectural Coordination

    Worked through conflicts involving plumbing rough-ins, kitchens, appliances, slab penetrations, electrical equipment, lighting, fire alarm, mechanical equipment and rooftop conditions.
